According to an article in The Hindu, India’s national newspaper, the market for medical transcription in the U.S. is estimated at $20 billion—$40 million of which goes to India. One company, Cbay Systems, incorporated in the U.S., outsources 95% of its work to India, and is now the fourth largest transcription company in the United States. So far Cbay has raised $20 million from venture capitalists and equity investors, and is planning to raise another $25 million for its next round of big expansion in India. From The Hindu:

1. Just Calculate for Yourself
Total U.S. Medical Transcription Market ------- $20 Billion
Revenues of C-Bay $33 Milllion ($0.033 Billion)
Total Transcription Market in India $40 Million ($0.040 Billion)
But C-Bay is not the only company in India. There are at least 5-10 Medium and large players in India, including HeatlhScribe, Heartland, and Spryance.
So, if C-bay which outcources most of its work to India, is having revenue of 33 million USD, what would be the total value of MT market in India. I guess (my gut feeling) it is more than 100 Million USD.
And as far as the grandiose plan of C-Bay is concerned, it is not bound to happen. Inspite of having 33 franchises and its own centers, it will not be in a comfortable position to ramp to 10,000 employees. It is foolish to think in that way. Here not C-bay alone is ramping, there are a number of players who want a slice of it. Any one from C-bay rake your brains?
Any one with iota of brain will admit the factual errors in this article.
Moreover, if the value of US MT market is 20 billion dollars, when some part of work is outsourced to cheap countries, its value is diminished to the price they get. So, it will be always less than 20 Billion dollars.
