The eRx Collaborative, a
partnership among three Massachusetts health plans and two vendors, was formed to promote e-prescribing adoption by
providing PDAs and electronic prescribing software to 3,400 Massachusetts physicians.
The Collaborative has announced that, over the past two years, more than three million electronic prescriptions have been transmitted by participants in the group Additionally, as of the end of 2005, a total of more than 4,000 prescriptions have been cancelled each month due to drug interaction alerts generated by the e-prescribing software.
Participating prescribers were also found to be more frequently adhering to the formulary information of patients’ insurance plans. That information is also available via the system, and has helped to reduced payers' drug costs by 1.5% over the same timeframe.
