The U.S. military is looking at a computer system currently being used by Mercy General Health Partners, a Michigan hospital, with the intention of possibly
adopting it.
Mercy, and a sister hospital, received a $1.2 million federal grant. The funds will be used to study the record keeping computer system, which tracks patients’ medical histories. The $13 million is called Project Genesis and will eventually provide electronic storage for all medical records, X-rays, prescriptions and individual medical histories.
The federal grant will give the military access to components of Project Genesis. The Department of Defense feels
that the system represents a prototype that could be useful in caring for members of the armed forces at home and
on the battlefield.
